Latest drilling results build case for shallow, open pit gold operation at Duplex Hill South Project, WA

Australian Mines Limited (ASX: AUZ) is pleased to announce the results from recent drilling at its Duplex Hill South Project in Western Australia.

Duplex Hill is located 30 km South East of Kalgoorlie and 7 km from the company’s Blair underground nickel mine.

Following a successful RC programme in January 2006 that confirmed strong gold mineralisation and extended the strike length of the main deposit, an infill programme of 11 RC holes for a total of 478 metres was drilled in February, to firm up the resource model at Woodline1.

Further strong gold mineralisation was encountered, with best results including:

  • 9m at 10.4g/t Au
  • 12m at 6.7 g/t Au
  • 8m at 2.1 g/t Au
  • 4m at 3.6 g/t Au, and
  • 9m at 9.1 g/t Au.

Commenting on the results, Australian Mines’ Chief Operating Officer Mr Brett Young said, “drilling at Duplex Hill South continues to impress, as strong gold mineralisation has been encountered in all three exploration programmes to date since drilling begun in September 2005.

“After interpreting these latest drill results and incorporating them into an updated resource model, we will be at the stage where we can begin the process of planning and assessing the feasibility of a shallow, open pit operation. We anticipate completing this within the June quarter.”

A RAB drilling programme has also been completed on the adjacent Woodline North
deposit, with results currently being assessed.
